Innocent

(Guest Post written by Erin Guerrero, my wife.  I thought this was pretty powerful and decided to share it with the rest of the world.  Enjoy!)

So every day I have my ipod in hand and I go walking. I started doing it for exercise but now I walk because it gives me time alone to think and to meditate and pray. Sometimes I will be walking and I’ll look up at the beautiful blue sky at the same time “Praise Him under open skies” is playing on my ipod and it’s like a message from God. Walking for me has become a getaway for me, but it has also become a mini worship experience at times. Walking gives me time to think about the day, time to complain to myself, time to live in the future, but sometimes I just listen to the music that is playing in my ear. Recently I went walking and I skipped over like 25 songs. Well, I got distracted from the music for a few minutes and when I started listening, there was a song playing that I usually skip over. It’s a song that John put on itunes that I could barely stand. It’s called Innocent by Stellar Kart. These are the words :

I'm overdressed for success

In a world that has no shame

I've had enough of seeing love

Being played like some game

I know why the good old days are gone

Cause everyone just tolerates whats wrong

I'm not some empty space for rent

I wanna be innocent

Yours wholeheartedly

Innocent

Every part of me

Take me back so I can see

The way that love was meant to be

Boys and girls

The real world

Is one that's filled with consequence

And all the lies that glamorize

It's a life that's broken

I see why the good old days are gone

Every time I turn my tv on

What's wrong with being different

Buried underneath this avalanche

You are my hope and second chance

Don't let my heart get away
So, I heard those words in my ear and I thought to myself, “This is the first time I have really listened to these words.” I don’t know about any of you, but these words are SO true. As I was walking, I realized just how tolerant we are in life. Let’s go back to the Elvis days. When they would show him on TV, they would only show from his waist up. This was done because of the provocative way Elvis would swing his hips back and forth, but now we see this and we think “what’s the big deal?” They show strippers on CSI almost every single time it airs. My great grandmother would probably be floored! But we, yes us, have become intolerant. I promise I am not going to start talking about homosexuality, but I am going to say that our morals in America today are so immoral. Stellar Kart says that the real world is filled with consequence and that it is, but many young people don’t see that. They see sex glorified, they see drugs as cool, they see drinking as casual, and they see love as unnatural. Media has portrayed these things as a way to be labeled the “in-crowd”. What these young people don’t see is that sex can end up not so glorifying, because you lose your innocence. They don’t see that drugs can make a sane person completely insane and more often depressed. They don’t see that drinking can turn a father or a brother into an addict and often suicidal or an accidental murderer. They don’t see that love is unconditional or supposed to be harmless.

It’s so sad that so many young people want so badly to be accepted by the world that they forget the only thing that is going to matter when they die is if God accepted them, or if they accepted God.
One thing is for sure though, “You are my hope and second chance.” Stellar Kart says this line so that a person can know that God gives second chances and He will take a person back after they have been immoral. And for Christians, those who struggle with the world and with the immorality that is so ever-present, “Don’t let your heart get away.” God will keep you, but you can’t let yourself get lost in the sin of the world.

So, this is what has been on mind! I strongly advise to go on a meditative walk! It’s so refreshing and you learn so much about God and nature!
