Tomorrow is a day of thanks. It is day for families and food, turkey and tussles. It is a day to celebrate. A day to pig out. A day to rest. A day to get tired of your family and realize how grateful you are that you only see them for holidays and weddings. Just kidding! Tomorrow, on Thanksgiving Day, the country will stop all of its activity, all of its busy-ness, and will sit down at a dinner table and partake of a meal fit for a king (or a dozen). And they will be thankful.
In the true spirit of Thanksgiving, I thought today I would bless you with the top five things John Guerrero is thankful for. After the jump, please delight yourself in the gifts I so fondly cherish, then please add your own. I look forward to your comments! Happy Thanksgiving!
1.Dr. Pepper
How can you not love that sweet nectar of a drink? It flirts with your taste buds and so smoothly rushes down your throat like medicine for the soul - except it doesn't taste like medicine at all. If I could hook myself up to a Dr. Pepper IV, I would do so in a heartbeat. And if Charles Alderton were alive today, I would probably be his best friend. Seriously.
2.Netflix
My wife and I don't have cable and we live in the middle of nowhere so we don't even get the basics. Who knew that the solution to the problem of boredom in our home would come in the form of a little red disk that we pop into our Wii? And who knew that you could watch 7 seasons of "24" in a couple of months, or every Goldie Hawn movie known to man? For ten bucks a month, I fell in love with Jack Bauer and Mary Tyler Moore - in different ways of course.
3.Angry Birds
I'm 25 years old but I still love to play games. And right now the best way for me to pass the time is with "Angry Birds" on my wife's iPod Touch. I absolutely love that game! I mean, who doesn't get excited about shooting birds from a slingshot in a desperate attempt to kill the evil pigs who stole the eggs? It doesn't get more serious than that. Whether I am being lazy on the couch, or sitting in the restroom, or waiting for kids to show up at work, wherever I am, those angry birds are flying.
4.My Church
I know that sometimes I complain about the crazy (and possibly evil) kids who make up our church group on Wednesday nights, but I really do love them. Even when they don't listen to a word I say, or when they throw basketballs and footballs across the gym like they are in a war and the balls are grenades, or when they spill Kool-aid all over the table just by looking at it, even in those times, they are great kids and I'm glad to be able to teach them. As for the rest of the church, they are a different story. Not really, I love them too!
5.My Wife
Sorry if it sounds sappy or pathetically romantic but it's true. I really do love Erin like a fat kid loves cake. (Wow, is that an old 50 Cent reference?) Seriously though, she is the world's best woman. Totally better than anyone else's wife. She loves me and cares for me, she cooks awesome food, she does the laundry, she is amazingly beautiful, and she is tough. Don't ever tick her off! I definitely do not deserve her. Not one bit. But I am very grateful for her.
So that is my list. What's yours? What are some things that you are thankful for these days? Leave a comment and let us know!
